The Appraisal Clause
A clause inside most property insurance policies that allows either the insurance carrier or policyholder to resolve a dispute on the amount of the loss. This is usually used as an alternative dispute resolutionf to litigation.
Disinterested Appraisers
Both parties select a competent and disinterested appraiser. These experts evaluate the damage objectively to reach a mutual agreement on repair costs without litigation.
The Neutral Umpire
If there are differences between the appraisers, a neutral third party is brought in by the appraisers. This is called an Umpire. The differences are presented to the Umpire and an award is signed by the agreement and signatures of any two of the three panel members.

The award will be signed by any two of the three panel members and accompanied by an estimate that reflects the award amount. Once the award is finalized, we’ll send you an invoice that can be paid using whichever method is most convenient for you.
